Nexon is Tata's one of the better-selling models in the Indian car market. It offers unique styling, great fuel efficiency, and 5-star safety ratings.
Tata Nexon is a compact SUV that has received a 5-star safety rating by Global NCAP. It is equipped with an energy-absorbing structure in the body with high tensile strength. Nexon is packed with a powerful petrol engine and new-age features including a sunroof. It also offers high ground clearance and solid build quality.
Exterior
Several changes can be seen in the 2020 Tata Nexon face lift, especially at the front. It has a stylish and sleeker headlight with a new grille, a new C-shaped bumper surrounding the lower light cluster gracefully, and an integrated bull bar. It also has a faux scuff plate which gives it an SUV-like appearance. The lower air intake has a tri-arrow pattern which is an interesting detail. Nexon has also received a new bonnet which is taller and flatter to meet the new pedestrian safety norms.
The white stripes featured at the base of the windows put a definition to the rising belt line running around the rear. Tata Nexon in its upgraded model gets a blackened C-pillars to make it appear less coupe-like, ‘Nexon’ is now written across the rear in chrome. To give it a wider appearance, it gets faux vents at the bottom of the rear bumper.
Interior
The interior is designed with a solid-looking dash and a free-standing screen at the center. There is a neat glove box release button put into the dash. The dash has a tri arrow pattern giving it a sleek design and athletic appeal.
The new steering wheel is very sporty and has a flat bottom. The instrument cluster is now a digital LCD panel along with a large digital readout for the speedometer and LCD bars for other functions, thus replacing the classic analogue dials.
Even though the build of the dashboard is toughened, the small buttons operate comfortably, and the perceived quality of the cabin has been raised.
The shallow door-pockets are a bit oddly inclined to provide bottle holders which may cause an issue ergonomically but the umbrella holders in the doors are a thoughtful touch.
Nexon is a comfortable SUV to sit in because of its space-efficient design and wide, roomy cabin. The seats are placed at a good height and are wide and have a good amount of space in the driver’s foot well. The cabin feels airy and open due to the inclusion of the new sunroof.
The Legroom is enough for a tall person of about six inches, the same is with the headroom, despite the slight drop in the roof lining.
New kit includes new LED DRLs, both at the front and rear, traction control, ESP, roll-over mitigation and brake assist as standard, auto headlights, auto wipers, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The 8-speaker Harman audio system provides clarity and audibility, and once you’ve set the equalizer, you can play it at full volume, without misrepresentation.
Safety Features
Nexon is the first Indian vehicle to score a 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash test, for adult occupancy, and a 3-star rating for child occupant safety. It includes safety features such as rear parking sensors, dual front airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. Tata has improved its safety features by including Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) for driver and passenger.
This car provides good protection for both adult head and neck along with marginal protection for the driver’s chest and adequate protection for passenger’s chest.
Engine Options
Nexon comes with an updated 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The three-cylinder unit gets 10hp more and takes its maximum power up to 120hp. The new BS6 engine has a new induction system, lowered friction levels, an uprated turbo and a new exhaust system. Nexon has updated the 110hp 1.5-litre diesel engine to make it BS6-compliant. Both engines are having 6-speed manual gearboxes or AMT automatics available incoherence.
Pricing
With an improvement in the overall quality, fit and finish, the car comes across as a tough competitor. It is remarkably spacious and comfortable with a beefy suspension which works well and with all the additional features on offer, it appears more upmarket. With these features, Nexon prices range from Rs 6.95 to Rs 11.20 lakh for the petrol version, which is a terrific value for money.
