New Mahindra Thar to be launched in India in the festive season

New Mahindra Thar is expected to launch soon during the festive season in India with major changes. The company is trying to approach a wider market by making this car more premium than its predecessor. It is now designed with a greater focus on creature comfort, long drive capabilities, and more in-cabin features.

The next-generation car is expected to be launched between September or October 2020 with an underpinned all-new ladder platform. It is also expected to have larger dimensions in comparison to the outgoing model.

Engine and Design

The upcoming SUV will come powered with a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine and is rumoured to generate around 140bhp of power. That’s not all! You might want to expect a petrol-powered off-roader this time. The new engine is a part of the manufacturer’s mStallion petrol engine family and will likely come with a 6-speed automatic and manual transmission. Turbocharging and direct-fuel-injection will also be part of the package.

Both 6-speed manual and automatic transmission will be available here too. Four-wheel drive will also definitely make an appearance to pay a tribute to its previous generation model. Both the engines will be BS6 compliant.

The new-gen SUV is expected to come with a trademark seven-slat grille of the automaker, flared wheel arches and, a factory-fitted hard-top variant. This time, dashboard will have a touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Key Features

The car is expected to come with an 18-inch alloy with a five-spoke design. The rear section will get a brand new set of LED tail-lamps. Like the older model, the spare will be mounted to the rear door.

The current generation SUV does not have airbags but the upcoming one will come with the dual front airbags and ABS for added safety. The test vehicle will be available soon for enthusiasts and potential buyers to take a test drive. It will offer a fully-digital instrument cluster with all additional information, USB ports, and power-operated ORVMs.

Price

The current generation Mahindra Thar costs Rs.9.59 to Rs.9.99 lakh. Expect the new premium offering’s top model to be priced on a higher side.

Mahindra Thar has always been known as a rugged SUV, with basic interiors, and suspensions tuned for off-roading only. The new model is expected to break this reputation and try to establish itself as a regular car for the daily commute.

Let us see, whether Mahindra manages to do this successfully or not!
