Govt asks Amazon, Flipkart to stop selling seat belt alarm blockers

The Union government asked online retail giant Amazon, and Flipkart to stop selling devices that disable car seatbelt alarms. This decision is taken due to "potential safety risks".

People use meta clips to insert in seatbelt slots to bypass the alarm that keeps on pinging when seat belts are not in use.

To enhance the safety of all passengers in vehicles, the government is planning to make it mandatory to introduce seatbelt alarm for rear seats as well.

Now, rear seat passengers not wearing a seatbelt will also attract a fine of Rs 1,000 per person.

Ministry believes that these items should be banned so that these alarms don't go off till all passengers wear seatbelt.
