Cars to be Discontinued in India Due to New Emission Norms

From April 2023, India will implement new emission norms known as Real-Time Driving Emission (RDE) norms, which are part of Phase 2 of the BS6 emission standards.
These norms require vehicles to meet stricter emission requirements. As a result, many car manufacturers will discontinue diesel vehicles, and some petrol cars will require modifications to comply with the new rules. Vehicles that fail to meet these requirements will not be allowed on the roads from next year.

Real-Time Driving Emission Norms: What You Need to Know

Until now, car emission levels were tested in laboratories. However, it was found that real-world driving conditions can lead to higher emission levels. To address this, the government has mandated the continuous monitoring of emission levels for both passenger and commercial vehicles. This will require the installation of devices in vehicles to monitor emissions.

To meet these advanced emission norms, vehicles will need a device that can monitor emissions while the vehicle is in motion. This may increase the production cost for manufacturers, with diesel cars being the most affected. As a result, many companies are considering discontinuing certain models.
List of 17 Cars to be Discontinued Before April

  1. Hyundai: i20 Diesel, Verna Diesel
  2. Tata: Altroz Diesel
  3. Mahindra: Marazzo, Alturas G4, KUV100
  4. Skoda: Octavia, Superb

  6. Nissan Kicks
  7. Maruti Suzuki Alto 800
  8. Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol
  9. Honda: City 4th Gen, City 5th Gen Diesel, Amaze Diesel, Jazz, WR-V

These cars will be discontinued due to the new emission norms, and consumers are advised to consider this when making purchasing decisions.
