All new 2021 Triumph Tiger 850 Sport is the most affordable bike from Triumph. Can it perform like as expected?
Triumph Motorcycles has announced the all new 2021 Triumph Tiger 850 Sport, a road-oriented Adventure-Touring model, based on the latest Tiger 900 platform. This Sport model is the most affordably priced Tiger Triumph in the lineup and can change the current standard model Tiger 900.
This Sport also fills an important role within the greater Tiger 900 family as it hopes to attract buyers through its more manageable power delivery and lower peak performance numbers.
Design
Besides the returned engine, the Tiger 850 Sport gets a comfortable riding position, comes with all-LED lighting, traction control which is switchable for some sideways fun with a 5-inch full-color TFT screen, while ABS settings cannot be modified and gets two selectable riding modes - Road and Rain. These types of modes alter the throttle response and traction control system settings to suit the driving conditions. To maintain a price, the model not use an IMU, unlike its mid and top-tier Tiger brethren.
Engine
The Tiger 850 Sport is same as the new Tiger 900 engine with 888cc in-line triple-cylinder engine but has a slightly change state of tune to give it more accessible and manageable delivery of usable power and torque. according to Triumph, it's featuring the T-plane crank design and 1-3-2 firing order, which gives 850 triple outstanding tractability at lower rpms. The engine has been tuned to offer smooth and linear power and torque delivery from low engine speeds and across the rev range.
The main difference between the 850 and 900 variant is it's model-specific fuel tuning, that reduces claimed peak hp to 84 at 8,500 rpm and peak torque to 60.5 lb-ft at 6,500 rpm whereas, 900 model claims to deliver 93.9 hp at 8,750 rpm and 64 lb-ft of torque at 7,250 rpm. The engine is paired to a six-speed casting gearbox, with a slip and assist clutch. Triumph will provide a quickshifter as an accessory.
Chassis
Underneath the familiar bodywork, the chassis is same as on the Tiger 900 with 320mm discs at the front and a 255mm disc on the rear and twin channel ABS as normal. The lightweight frame has a strong-on subframe and pillion footrest hanger to make it easier to change in case the rear end suffers severe damage in an accident. As far as suspension components are concerned, Triumph, however, has equipped the motorcycle with an 45mm Marzocchi USD fork with 7.09-inches of travel and Marzocchi shock with 6.7-inches of travel and preload adjustment only, are employed once more.at the front (180mm travel) and gas-charged monoshock at the rear (170mm travel) with manual preload adjustment.
Braking elements remain a highpoint, with superbike-ready 4-piston Brembo Stylema calipers and 320mm floating rotors in the front of the motorcycle. Meanwhile, 1-piston Brembo caliper and 255mm circular disc take care of braking in the rear.
Price and Launch
The new Triumph Tiger 850 Sport is expected to be range at somewhere between 13 lakh-14lakh (ex-showroom). The Tiger 850 Sport doesn’t have a direct rival in India but it will take on the likes of BMW F 750 GS and BMW F 900 XR. India's launch is scheduled in Feb 2021.
