Why Is Mahindra Recalling XUV300 In India?

Mahindra & Mahindra is voluntarily recalling a batch of its newly launched compact SUV XUV300 in India. In a regulatory filing, the Indian automaker has announced that it is conducting a proactive inspection and replacement of a suspension component. Under the scheme, Mahindra will be recalling the vehicles manufactured till May 19, 2019.

Mahindra & Mahindra has called the recall of XUV300 as a result of its customer centric approach. It will offer free of cost inspection and subsequent rectification for XUV300 customers. The company will individually contact each and every customer for the recall as per the information given in its regulatory filing.

At present, suspension duties in Mahindra XUV300 are carried out by MacPherson Strut along with Anti-roll BarRear suspension set-up for the front wheels. Rear wheels carry Twist Beam suspension with coil spring. In its regulatory filing, Mahindra hasn’t mentioned the specific component that needs to be replaced under the recall scheme. Automaker has not revealed the exact number of vehicles that are affected by this recall.

XUV300 shares its underpinnings with the SsangYong Tivoli and is manufactured at Mahindra’s plant in Nashik. It comes loaded with all the modern tech including 360-degree camera system, seven airbags, dual-zone climate control, touch screen infotainment system, front parking sensors and tyre monitoring system among others.

It comes powered with 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines under the hood. Power mills are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The W6 diesel engine variant also gets the option of AMT. Petrol engine churns out 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque and diesel engine produces a decent 115 bhp and 300 Nm of torque.

Mahindra has been in the compact SUV segment for a long time with Quanto but XUV300 is the model that has managed to make the Indian automaker as a serious contender in the already crowded segment. It was launched in February with a price range of 8.10 lakhs to Rs 12.69 lakhs. At present, it is doing decent sales numbers amid more popular rivals including Ford Eco Sport, Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza.

At present Mahindra is readying the vehicle to meet BS6 emission norms. An all-electric model of XUV300 is also in production and could be launched in the latter part of 2020.
