The all-new Volkswagen Virtus just made its world debut, and the sedan will go on sale for the first time in India. As a global midsize sedan, the Virtus is already available in over 25 countries, and the new model unveiled today is a made-in-India facelift. The Virtus will replace the Vento sedan in India.
The new Volkswagen Virtus dynamic Line and the Performance Line offer 1.0 and 1.5 TSI variants, respectively, for the new model. Starting today, pre-bookings for Virtus are available.
Design and dimensions
Volkswagen's latest design language is evident in the new Virtus, which is sharp and well-proportioned. The chrome grille and bumper give the front end a sleek, modern look. Because of its nearly extremely similar glasshouse, shoulder line, and silhouette when viewed in profile, it's easy to see the Skoda Slavia's connection to it. The back of the new Virtus has wraparound tail lights and a stylish bumper. Like the Taigun GT, the Virtus GT will be the top-of-the-line version of the Virtus 1.5. There's a lot of black accenting on the Virtus GT's exterior to set it to stand out from the competition.
Color options for the Virtus include Reflex Silver, Curcuma Yellow, Carbon Steel Grey, Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, and Rising Blue Metallic.
Skoda Slavia and Virtus are built on the same MQB A0-IN platform, so it's no surprise that they have similar dimensions. The 4,561mm length, 1,752mm width, and 1,507mm height, as well as the 2,651mm wheelbase, make it one of the midsize sedans with the biggest dimensions. It has a 521-litre boot space.
Interiors and features
A 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard equipment with Volkswagen's new three-spoke steering wheel and layered dashboard. The GT trim gets a red dashboard, red stitching, and aluminium pedals for a sportier look.
In addition, the fully equipped Virtus includes connected car tech, hill-hold control, ventilated front seats, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a sunroof, and ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, auto headlamps and wipers, auto climate control, cooled glovebox, an 8-speaker audio system, six airbags, ESC, and five adjustable headrests.
Engine and gearbox options
The new Virtus has two turbo-petrol engine options like the Slavia and Taigun. On Dynamic Line models, there is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI engine that produces 115 hp and 175 Nm, while on Performance Line models, there is 1.5-litre engine that produces 150 hp and 250 Nm.
There is a 6-speed manual transmission that comes standard with both engines. The 1.0 TSI has a 6-speed torque converter, whereas the 1.5 TSI has a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
Safety
Six airbags, five adjustable headrests for all passengers, 3-point seatbelts for all seats, an electronic differential lock, and hydraulic brake boosters are just some of the safety features included in VW's latest model. There is also electronic stability control, a tire pressure deflation warning, hill hold control, and a side-impact protection beam on the doors of Volkswagen Virtus.
Launch and rivals
VW plans to debut the new Virtus in the coming months, and it will face competition from the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, and Honda City.
