Toyota Raize- Here Is What We Know So Far

Raize is the first offering from Toyota to the highly competitive compact SUV segment. The model is already on sale in Japan. While we know all the related specs, details about its release in India are not yet out.

Dimensions

The model has 3,995mm length, 1,695mm width and 1,620mm height, that makes it approximately similar to its competitors like Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon. Its 2,525mm wheelbase and 185mm ground clearance is also somewhat similar to the other cars in the segment. It is a sibling to the Daihatsu Rocky that was showcased earlier at the 2019 Tokyo Motor show.

Highlights

  • Its top model offers 17-inch, dual tone alloy wheels. Lower variants come equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels or steel rims.

  • The car is designed on Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, that is the low-cost version of the modular Toyota New Global Architecture for emerging markets.

  • Its 996cc engine under the hood is tuned to churn out 98hp at 6,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 2,400-4,000rpm. The engine comes mated to a CVT gearbox.

  • For now, the four-wheel drive is only offered to the Japanese market. As per WLTC cycle, engine delivers the fuel efficiency of 18.6 kmpl for a 2 wheel drive model and 17.4 kmpl for a 4 wheel drive model.

  • Toyota Raize offers electronic stability control, traction control, six airbags, hill-start assist, ABS with EBD, blind spot monitoring system, lane keep assist, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive automatic headlamps with a static bending function, 360-degree camera, rear cross traffic alert and autonomous braking.

  • Lower spec models offer 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system housed perfectly in black and silver dashboard. Top spec trim gets a premium 9-inch infotainment system.

  • All variants get Apple CarPlay compatibility and Toyota’s Smart Device Link connectivity suite including Bluetooth connectivity.

  • The instrument cluster of Raize is divided into two parts - an LED speedometer and 7.0-inch TFT colour display that is configurable in four modes.

  • Its other worth-noting features include push button start, keyless entry, heated front seats, auto climate control, dynamic indicators, LED headlamps, steering-mounted audio controls and USB ports among others.

Interiors

Being a Toyota product, the interiors of the car are designed very practically and offer a lot of utilitarian value. It has a decent boot size of 369-litre. More luggage can be stacked easily by folding its rear 60:40 split-folding seats. There are a lot of holders and cubbies to store small utility items like smartphones, chargers and water bottles among others.

After the remarkable success of Innova Crysta, this car by Toyota is indeed worth waiting for.

Fingers Crossed for its release in India!
