Toyota discontinues Yaris to make space for Ciaz-based Belta

Toyota has stopped the production of Yaris to make space for Belta that it will start selling from its showrooms in August.

Toyota has stopped the production of its slow selling sedan Yaris. Toyota is planning to shift the focus to the larger and better value for money Toyota Belta. Instead of brand new model, it would be the rebadged Maruti Ciaz. The Toyota Belta will hit the showrooms around the middle of August. Like other Maruti based Toyotas, it is expected to register strong sales for the company.

Why Toyota Yaris is Discontinued?

The slow-selling Yaris was never able to compete with the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Ciaz. It wasn’t much spacious, had some important features missing, was priced on a higher side. Yaris sales peaked in 2021 at 871 units in March 2021  and ever since then, it has struggled to sell beyond three figures.

Toyota is also discontinuing the Yaris to make more space on the assembly line for an SUV that would challenge the likes of Creta and Seltos. There are also more Toyota-based products that will be manufactured in the future.

What Toyota Belta Will Offer?

There would be no real difference between Maruti Ciaz and Toyota Belta. It will come powered with the same 105hp, 1.5-litre K Series petrol engine coupled with the mild-hybrid system. It will be mated to 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmission.

Like Toyota Glanza and Urban Cruiser, Toyota is expected to offer a more meaty warranty package with Belta. The variants on offer might have slight difference in comparison to Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. At Toyota, you can also expect better sales and services due to lesser rush at dealerships and service stations.
