5% convenience fee on each auto ride, by this Indian government rule

The Karnataka government directed the regional transport autorities (RTOs) to charge 5% convenience fee and GST from ride-hailing companies on each auto ride by travellers.

Ola Uber Drivers and Owners Association  (OUDOA) blamed the government for not presentimg the case properly. The government should have brought an amendment to the Karnataka On-demand Transportation Technology Aggregators as there is no provision for autorickshaw in it.

If the transport department had given proper information to court, then it would have directed the government to bring an amendment to the rule.

As per existing schemes, the charge of every kilometre while riding an autorickshaw is Rs 15. If we add 5% GST and convenience fee on per km, it would cost 80 paise.

However, the minimum charge fixed by the government for auto rides is Rs 30 and the per km fare above that is Rs 15.
