Technologies helping to park your cars safely and accurately

Parking a car properly is not everyone's cup of tea. If not careful, you can easily dent or scratch your car with unwanted objects lying in the parking area. The task becomes even more difficult at tight parking spots where there is just enough space to squeeze in your car.

Thanks to evolving technology, now we have car parking assistance systems to easily park the car. Combination of sensors, cameras, and alarms have made parking the car very easy. Take at different technologies aiding safe parking.

Park distance control

Most new cars today have this simple but effective technology. These are ultrasound sensors located in the rear bumper and, in some cases, the front bumper as well. They can sense an obstruction by transmitting and receiving waves; when the car approaches it, the beeping inside the car speeds; when the beeping becomes a continuous tone, it's time to stop. The obstacle is only fifteen centimetres away.

Reverse parking camera

A wide-angle camera on the car's rear, typically near the boot handle, transmits the image to the dashboard display. Additionally, it frequently displays guidelines that indicate the optimal way into the parking space.

Rear traffic alert

Rear traffic alert uses sensors on the rear bumper to help you exit a perpendicular parking space securely. In case another car is approaching from the side or if there are children or other obstacles behind the car, the lights on your onboard computer or an audible signal will alert you. Additionally, when necessary, active braking intervenes. If you have a panoramic camera installed, you can see what's going on around your car.

Automatic parking

It uses sensors and cameras to detect if there is enough space between parked cars for your car as you pass by. The car could then back into space with the driver operating the accelerator and brake and shifting gears. This assistance can now reverse precisely, park in perpendicular spots by reversing first, then drive ahead, and finally exit a parking space. As a result, the car may now also self-brake in the event of an unexpected obstacle.

Remote parking

Remote Parking is the next evolution, where your car parks itself. It handles steering, braking, gear change, accelerator, and sometimes even the handbrake. Hold down a button, and the car will take care of the rest. Some cars already do this without the driver: an app controls the manoeuvre.
