Tata to Mahindra; upcoming electric car launches under ₹ 20 lakhs

While electric vehicles continue to rise in popularity, several car manufacturers are working on new models that offer a compelling value proposition to attract more customers and buyers. If you are in the market for a new electric vehicle, we have compiled a list of the top electric cars under Rs 20 lakh in India.

MG electric crossover

The electric crossover will be launched from MG Motor for between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. The new electric crossover, targeted for the masses and based on a worldwide platform is customized for the Indian market. It is expected to offer a range of more than 300 kilometers. It will compete with the Tata Nexon EV.

Tata Punch EV

Tata Motors is also working on a new electric subcompact SUV based on Punch, likely to launch shortly. This variant will be based on the ALFA modular platform. The Tata Tigor EV, which features a 55kW electric engine and a 26kW lithium-ion battery pack, will likely share its powertrain with the new Tata Punch. Its motor produces 74bhp (55kW) and 170 Nm of torque.

The manufacturer says that the Tigor EV has a certified driving range of 306 kilometers. The Tata Punch-based electric SUV is likely to have similar performance and range specifications. Its battery can charge from 0% to 80% within an hour. A full charge of the battery takes about eight and a half hours on a home charger.

Tata Altroz EV

The Altroz EV was initially seen at Auto Expo 2020 and is now one of the most eagerly awaited electric vehicles to launch in the country. This electric vehicle is likely to cost around INR 15 lakh and share its powertrain with Nexon. When the Altroz EV goes on sale in 2022, it will be the first premium hatchback with an electric engine.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV

We spotted the WagonR EV on test numerous times, and we expect the brand to launch the car shortly. For INR 10 lakh, Maruti Suzuki expects its first EV in India to be the brand's first EV in the country. The WagonR EV will have a reasonable price tag and a roomy cabin.

Mahindra eKUV100

The Mahindra eKUV100 was also showcased at AutoExpo and is likely to be one of India's most affordable EVs. The modest size vehicle looks like a practical city commuter. We expect Mahindra to launch it soon.

Tata Tiago EV

Tata is likely to debut the Tiago EV in the next few months, after the launch of the Tigor EV in India. Expect the Tiago EV's powertrain similar to the Tigor EV, the brand's most affordable EV. Tata Tiago has got a safety rating of four out of five stars.

Mahindra eXUV300

The eXUV300 is likely to become the brand's second electric vehicle. The car's long-range battery pack makes it a terrific alternative for highway driving, as well as for those who want a car with excellent safety ratings.
