Tata Nexon EV review - Powerful and spacious city commuter

The Nexon EV is a city car with a good range. The majority of car lovers are enticed by this car due to the comprehensive features offered by this car. You'll enjoy the pleasant cabin and connected car technology, a sunroof, as well as advanced car lights and wipers. The Nexon EV is specifically designed for private users and not for use in commercial markets.

With the Nexon EV, Tata has attempted to distinguish itself from the internal combustion engine (ICE) version both externally and internally. The ingress is higher than the normal version, with the battery pack on the floor of the car. There is a fresh, teal blue tone that fits in with the total size of the car, and blue highlights are provided across the car.

Design

With the new LED DRLs projector headlamps, a redesigned grille, a new bumper and a flatter cap to comply with future pedestrian crash safety standards, style is in-line with the Nexon makeover. The new 16-inch alloy wheels are lighter than before. The tail lamps are updated and the aesthetic changes are made in the bumpers. The blue hubs and other design components across the exterior constitute the aesthetic. The design of this EV is very attractive and much better than the IC engine counterpart.

Interior

The interior of Nexon EV is especially designed to provide comfort and luxury to the passengers while being distinct from the ICE version. In the interior, apart from the blue highlights, there are little modifications to the dashboard. The driving system is new, and the cluster is partly digital now, with a coloured display, displaying battery charging information, drive mode, range, etc. A new rotary selector is also available.

Engine and performance

This EV is powered by a permanent electric motor that draws power from the battery pack of 30.2 kWh rating. The motor is able to deliver 129 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. The ARAI range of this EV is 312 kilometres. For an 80 percent charge using a rapid DC charger, Tata estimates a charge time of 60 minutes and an 8-hour charge using 15A car charger.

The battery pack meets IP67 requirements and has an AIS 48 rating, meaning that this EV can move effortlessly through flooded roads. The powertrain renders excellent performance.  For those who move to this EV from normal internal combustion cars, there is a bit of a learning curve. This regeneration function uses the momentum of the car to charge its battery.

Final verdict

The Nexon EV is certainly one of the most reliable and affordable electric cars in the Indian car market. It looks better than ICE. The price for the entry-level version is about 13.99 lakh and the pricing for the top variants for the Nexon EV is near 15.99 lakhs. This means that the base EV costs ₹1.29 lakh more than the most costly diesel-automatic variant of the Nexon. However, you can save a lot on the running costs due to the amazing travel economy of this car.
