Tata Motors celebrates the first anniversary of its premium hatchback Altroz. It has finally brought its own competitor to the hot hatch segment with the unveiling of the Altroz iTurbo. It has now added the turbo petrol engine option in the product line up. Besides, the automaker will also introduce a new XZ+ top-spec variant of the Altroz with a collection of features additions.

Bookings for the turbocharged Altroz have commenced for a token amount of Rs 11,000 and prices will be revealed on January 22. It will be offered in three variants – XZ, XT, and the XZ+ variant. Here are it's new features, take a look:

Interior

The 2021 Tata Altroz comes with a host of additional creature comforts along with the iRA connected car technology and other 27 connected car features with five layers of connectivity. It includes - location based services, remote commands gamification, vehicle security and live vehicle diagnosis.

The additional features include two tweeters for the Harman audio system, leatherette upholstery, contrast black roof, personalized wallpaper on the infotainment screen, one shot up power window and express cool climate control function. It will retain bits like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting as well as auto headlamps and wipers. The cabin comes in a new dual-tone end. Design wise, the iTurbo is same, save for a new Harbor Blue body shade. The other variants body paint options are gold, grey, white and red.

Moreover, the vehicle get 'What3Words' technology with a unique three-word address that is easy to say, share, and is accurate too. The vehicle is also capable of identifying more than 70 commands in Hindi, English and Hinglish voice commands like the recently launched facelifted Hector.

The XT i-Turbo variant rides on 165/80 R14 steel wheels, while the XZ+ i-Turbo and the  XZ i-Turbo variants ride on 195/55 R16 alloy wheels.

Engine

Mechanically, the biggest change is under the hood. The upcoming version is powered by a 1.2-litre i-Turbo, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 107bhp at 5,500rpm and 140Nm of torque between 1,500 to 5,500rpm which is more than it's naturally aspirated counterpart. This engine will be paired to a five-speed manual transmission, with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic option set to be introduced later. It will make this model the first Tata mode to get a DCT automatic transmission.

Besides minor tweaks to the steering and suspension setup, Altoz  i-turbo engine will also get two driving modes: City and Sport which is a mode for buyers seeking a quicker response. The turbo engine claims that it is rated as 18.13kmpl as per MIDC cycle. Other than this, it continues to be offered in 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged revotorq diesel engine option.

Price

Expected price of the Altroz iTurbo is around Rs 8 lakh mark. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai i20 Turbo and Volkswagen Polo TSI. The automatic variants will take on the AT variants of the Toyota Glanza, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and Honda Jazz.
