Skoda Kushaq launched to challenge Creta and Seltos

Skoda has unveiled its first made-in-India SUV Kushaq globally. It offers attractive styling and minimalistic interiors. Have a dekko!

Skoda has finally launched a challenger to the sub-compact SUV segment that is largely dominated by Korean rivals Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The European automaker has globally unveiled its first made-in-India SUV, Kushaq. The bookings for the vehicle will commence from June 2021 onwards. Skoda will start delivering the Kushaq from July.

Design

Skoda Kushaq looks identical to the Vision IN concept unveiled at Auto Expo 2020. It sports the trademark Skoda grille flanked by LED headlamps, all-around body cladding, and sharp lines on the bumper. Base and mid-spec models will get 16-inch alloys and the top-spec will come with 17-inch alloy wheels.

It is based on the latest and localised MQB-A0-IN platform. The SUV is 4225mm long, 1612mm tall, and 1760mm wide. It has a wheelbase of 2651mm and a ground clearance of 188mm. It gets a boot space of 385 litres that you can expand to up to 1405 litres with 60:40 split seating option.

Interiors

Skoda has given a minimalistic look to the cabin with dual tone black and white interiors and glossy black highlights. It also offers a sunroof, wireless charging, ambient lighting, 10-inch touch infotainment unit, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, connected car technology, ventilated front seats, and more.

Safety Features

Skoda Kushaq will come equipped with auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers, tyre pressure monitoring system, and cruise control among others. It also offers 6 airbags for passenger safety. Electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat mount, hill hold assist, parking sensors, multi-collision braking, and rear parking camera.

Engine

Skoda will offer two petrol engine options with Kushaq. A 1.0-litre three-cylinder (115PS/175Nm) and the another one is 1.5-litre four-cylinder (150PS/250Nm) unit. Both engines will come with a 6-speed manual. The 1.0 litre mill will also come mated with torque converter automatic transmission.

1.5 litre engine will offer the option of DSG gearbox as well. It will also offer auto start and stop feature along with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) to increase the fuel efficiency of the vehicle based on your driving habit.

Pricing

Skoda Kushaq will be available in three trims including Active, Ambition, and Style. It is expected to be priced competitively in the range of Rs 9 lakh to Rs 17 lakh. It will compete against the likes of Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Maruti S-Cross, Mahindra Scorpio, and Nissan Kicks.
