Three of the premium carmaker's customers have commissioned the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, a wholly custom and coach-built vehicle. The first of three Boat Tails was shown today, demonstrating the client's specific preferences and the degree to which the bodywork has been customized. All of the models will have the same body type, but their looks and characteristics will differ.
Design
Inspired by the J-class boats and the original Rolls-Royce Tail from 1932, is the new Rolls-Royce Boat Tail. When the project began three years ago, their brief to Rolls was to produce a "joyful" and "celebratory" automobile that they could enjoy with their family.
The gigantic proportions of the new Boat Tail, which reaches about 5.9 meters in length, are the first thing that strikes you about it. The pantheon grille, flanked by broad and deep-set daytime running lights with iconic round headlights positioned below, is located up front on the Rolls-Royce. All of this has been seamlessly integrated into the new front-end design.
Unique features in the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail
Rolls Royce and the clients collaborated on a few customized design features that should be emphasized. The first is the fixed-canopy roof, which complements the car's sculptural appearance by extending out to the deck and resembling flying buttresses. Naturally, Rolls Royce has supplied a temporary cover for the seats if the customers face bad weather while the roof is off.
The timber back deck, which is finished in a caleidolegno veneer and has a dark colour, is the next prominent element. A brushed stainless steel pinstripe inlay attractively lengthens the open-pore wood deck. The butterfly-style doors on the deck are hinged towards the centre line and open to a perfect 67-degree angle.
The contents behind the decklid, which include fine cutlery, silverware, towels, and other items, are lifted to a 15-degree angle and given to the owners once the decklid is opened. Two folding picnic tables and two refrigerators are also available in this area.
One of the refrigerators was designed specifically to store the owner's favorite bottles of champagne and fast chill them to 6 degrees Celsius, the ideal serving temperature. Aside from the umbrellas in the doors, Rolls features a one-of-a-kind umbrella beneath the decklid's centerline.
