Road trips to get costlier as toll tax hiked

As there is a huge hike in fuel prices, the Centre has also decided to revise the rates of toll taxes across the country from April 1. As per reports, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the toll tax from ₹10 to ₹65 for four-wheelers with heavy commercial vehicles. The complete extent of the hike is not yet confirmed but it is expected to go up to 15 percent. This will vary depending on the route and location.

Toll tax for four-wheelers has been increased by ₹10 on highways connecting Delhi. However, the biggest increase has been made in the toll of oversized vehicles, i.e. ₹65 for a one-way trip.

Prices on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway are set to go up by 10 percent whereas, on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, the toll tax will increase by 14%. In addition, on Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway (KMP), it will increase by 9% or even more.

Furthermore, in Tamil Nadu, the rates are expected to increase in the region of 10-15% depending upon the toll booth while there is an increase of up to 15% in Assam too.
