Renault Kiger production model unveiled

Renault has unveiled the production model of much anticipated Kiger. It will come with two engine options and a host of creature comforts.

Renault Kiger is all set to enter the heavily crowded compact SUV segment. It will compete with multiple rivals including Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza, and more.

Kiger is unveiled in its production form which reflects that the launch is pretty close. Excluding variant break-up and pricing, Renault has released Kiger's specifications, features, design, interiors, and engine or gearbox options.

Exterior

Renault Kiger will keep the concept model's front styling to a large extent. It offers a sculpted bonnet and flared wheel arches that join to the large winged front grille and splits the LED headlight set up. The C-shaped LED tail lights look distinctive and aluminum skid plates give it a rugged look.

Kiger will have a ground clearance of 205mm and 16-inch alloy wheels will ploy the vehicle on road. Alloy wheels are wrapped in 195/65 R16 tyres. The compact SUV certainly looks bigger than its dimensions. Renault will offer Kiger with 6 color options including Mahogany Brown, Ice Cool White, Planet Grey, Caspian Blue, Moonlight Grey, and Radiant Red.

Interiors

On the inside, the Kiger features a grey layered dashboard with black plastic highlights on the centre console and power window switches, along with a lighter grey finish for the hexagonal side AC vents. An 8.0-inch touschscreen is mounted high on the centre of the dash above the central AC vents, almost in-line with a 7.0-inch TFT digital instrumentation display. A closer look at some of switches, stalks and the steering wheel will show that they are shared with the Triber, though the Kiger’s steering unit gets controls for the infotainment system.

Storage compartments are aplenty, with Renault saying there’s a total of 29 litres available. This includes the ability to hold four 1-litre bottles, two cups, 7.5 litres in the front centre armrest and 10.5 litres in the glove box.

It is almost similar with the 7.0-inch TFT digital instrumentation cluster.

It also offers a lot of storage compartments that adds up to 29 litres. All four doors have 1-litre water bottle holders, two cup holders, and more.

Infotainment system supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also supports voice commands and 5 Bluetooth devices at once. Other features include keyless entry, automatic climate control, push-button start, air purifier, and ambient lightings inside the cabin. There is no sunroof offered with Kiger.

Engine options

Renault Kiger will come with a 72hp, naturally aspirated petrol engine and 100hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The 72hp unit also comes with an AMT option. The turbo-petrol engine will come with both manual and CVT automatic options. Higher trims of turbo petrol also offers drive modes including Eco, Normal, and Sports.
