In view of the rising levels of pollution, Delhi government has asked the motorists to get color-coded fuel stickers as per the type of fuel on the windshield. As per the reports, order of Supreme Court and Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, the display of chromium-based hologram stickers on all vehicles registered in NCT of Delhi are compulsory.
Colors for the coded stickers are - blue for petrol or CNG and orange for diesel cars.
Due to amid rise of pollution, these stickers will help enforcement personnel visibly identify fuel type of a vehicle while checks on the road. These stickers also contain the registration number of vehicle, a laser-branded PIN, registering authority, and chassis number.
According to rules, vehicles that were registered in the city before April 2019, do not come with color-coded stickers. Owners without these stickers are liable to pay a fine of ₹10,000 compoundable to ₹5,500 for the offence.
Moreover, the Transport Department has also escalated the enforcement drive to penalize the vehicle owners without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. They issued over 3,500 fines from November 1 to November 17,2021.
