Over 2000 vehicles fined in Delhi in 4 days for violating pollution curbs

As many as 2,008 vehicles were fined between December 4 and 7 and levied a fine of Rs 20,000 per vehicle for violating the ban on petrol BS-III or diesel BS-IV vehicles by traffic department of Delhi. This decision was taken to keep the city's air quality in check.

As per the report prepared by transport department, a total of 145 vehicles were challaned by enforcement teams and 1,863 vehicles were challaned by traffic police officers in different parts of Delhi.

The challans can be paid by the owners of the vehicles by depositing the fee at the transport department, in case the challan has been issued by the transport department. BS-IV vehicles were fined the most as compared to BS-III vehicles.

All diesel BS-IV and petrol BS-III vehicles were banned from the Delhi roads between December 4 and 7 as part of anti-pollution measures under Stage 3 of GRAP.

Just after the 3 days ban was imposed, AQI improved in NCR.
