No need to pay registration fees on electric vehicles

The government has exempted electric vehicles from registration fees to encourage more adoption of EVs in the country.

If you are an electric car owner in India or planning to buy Electric Cars then there is one more reason to be happy. Indian government has issued a letter stating that electric vehicle owners are no longer required to pay registrations certificate fees.

The notification was issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Tuesday. It excludes all battery-powered electric automobiles from submitting fees for the issuance or renewal of registration certificates. Battery-operated vehicles are also excluded from paying fees for the assignment of new registration marks, according to the ministry.

The government has taken this decision to encourage more and more people to use Electric Vehicles. This step is also taken due to rapidly increasing prices of Fuel and people are blaming the Government for the heavy increase fuel prices. Greater adoption of EVs will also help in the controlling the rising vehicular pollution within city limits.

India is far behind developed regions like Europe and the US with the most automobiles when it comes to decreasing pollution by lowering reliance on Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles.

Such initiatives also with charging infrastructure boost is essential to accelerate the sales of electric vehicles in India.
