New generation Skoda Octavia to be launched in India - design, features, and engine

After the Kushaq, Skoda plans on bringing back the Octavia to the Indian market. Check out!

The Skoda Octavia is Skoda’s one of the most popular offering. The Skoda Octavia D-segment sedan was not upgraded to comply with the BS6 emission norms, thus, forced many manufacturers to discontinue. The Czech automaker did not upgrade the sedan to comply with the new emission norms since globally, a new-gen version of the Octavia had already been released. Skoda was planning a launch late in previous year but the COVID pandemic has forced the brand to release the car early next year in India, 2021.

Design

The new-gen Octavia’s design surely feels more evolutionary approach than revolutionary as compared to the outgoing model. Some notify changes have been included on the outside to bring it in line with Skoda’s latest global models, including the Superb facelift, as well as the Scala. Changes in the front include a sharp-looking LED headlamp unit with a conventional yet sharp-looking LED headlamp, with optional full-matrix LEDs.

It also features multi-spoke 17-inch ‘Rotare Aero’ alloy wheels, LED foglamps and tail-lights. The signature butterfly grille has been maintained, but is now more bigger in size. As compared to the previous model, the new-gen Octavia gets a slightly lower roofline, which gives it a coupe-like stance. The rear-end features new angular LED tail-lights, with the ‘SKODA’ lettering, placed on the boot lid, like all different new Skoda cars.

Features

On the interior, it offers a 10.25-inch touchscreen virtual cockpit, a 10-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with built-in eSIM and smartphone connectivity. Additional features include an advanced voice-controlled digital assistant, gesture control, wireless charging, five USB-C ports, multi-colour ambient lighting, a 12-speaker Canton sound system, a 4.2-inch head-up display, and a panoramic sunroof.

Jumping to the safety features will likely include a rear-view camera as well as a three-zone automatic climate control, blind-spot detection, adaptive cruise control, park assist, front and rear parking sensors, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC and so on.

Engine

The Euro-spec Skoda Octavia fourth-gen is offered with a range of engine options as petrol, diesel and mild-hybrid option as the heart of the car in India. However, the company decides to bring an oil burner here with a sole 2.0-litre TDI four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 190 PS of maximum power, as well as 320 Nm of peak torque.

We also expect that Skoda may introduce a 1.5-litre TSI engine option mated with a 6-speed manual transmission for the sedan. It will even be offered with a manual gearbox.

Launch

According to our sources, Mr Zac Hollis, Director of Sales, Service & Marketing at Skoda confirmed that the new-gen Skoda Octavia will come to India in the last week of next month. However, the company is yet to reveal the final date.

Price

The main deciding factor in the Indian market is the cost of car. The new fourth-gen Skoda Octavia is expected to be priced from Rs 17 lakh onwards. But, the official prices will be revealed before few days of it's launch. Hyundai Elantra will face the tough competition from the new car.
