MVD to fine two-wheelers for using umbrellas

The Department of Motor Vehicles has banned two-wheelers from carrying umbrellas while driving. Department had issued a warning against the backdrop of using umbrellas while riding a two-wheeler.

During the rainy season, it has become a common sight for two-wheelers using open umbrellas. It can cause distractions and lead to accidents due to high speed winds.

As per Motor Vehicle Act section 177 A, using an umbrella while on a two-wheeler, now will be identified as an offence. It would create a hefty fine starting from Rs 1,000 to 5,000. Meanwhile, according to the order issued by the ministry didn't clarify the amount.  However, department of motor vehicle will closely monitor and take legal actions against the culprits.
