Xl6 is Maruti Suzuki's premium offering in the MUV segment. It offers captain chairs in the second row and a host of creature comforts.
In a nutshell, the new Maruti Suzuki XL6 is a premium derivative of the Ertiga MPV. The 'XL6' added on the name is here to show you that this car is a pure six-seater. Additional changes are made inside and outside and Maruti will distribute the XL6 via its premium Nexa network in order to make the proposition more distinctive. The XL6's BS6 petrol engine features mild-hybrid technology and is available with a range of manual and automatic transmissions.
Exterior
The XL6 looks like an Ertiga. The look is rough and the front view of the XL6 also brings some distinction. The XL6 is a pseudo-SUV faced with a raised bonnet and a larger grill. The full LED headlights are also new and unique to the XL6.
The 15-inch wheels, finished in black, looks trendy. The XL6 has the exclusive feature of the roof rails, the rear scuff plate, and the two-tone tailgate. You can find the XL6 in six colors and by dipping into the Maruti accessory menu, you can also personalize the look of your vehicle.
Interior
Maruti Suzuki XL6 feels inside like it is Ertiga Premium. Certainly, the dashboard and even the dials are taken from the Ertiga, but it is more up-market to suit the XL6 interior theme. Other elements that boost the experience are the black cured wood finishing, the leatherette upholstered seats, and even the knitted roof. The comfort of the front seat is excellent, although the leatherette seat is slightly harder than the fabric seating of Ertiga.
Of course, the middle row of the XL6 is one of the main talk points. You can easily access the XL6's middle-row seats and slide them behind to leverage extra legroom. The comfort of the seat is also very well, although the thigh support is not that good. Again, like in the Ertiga, the space at the back will surprise you. A knee room compromise with passengers in the middle seat, head rooms are suitable for an average adult and the seat positions are quite nice since three rows are available. It's also practical to split and fold the back seats into one leg floor to hold a good 209 to 550 liters of baggage.
In Zeta and Alpha variants, the features are maximum. Besides automatic climate management, keyless entry, and electric folding mirrors, the XL6 has additional features such as DRL LED headlights and cruise control. The XL6 Alpha trim is made exclusively of the Leatherette and a reverse camera. The new Smart Play Studio infotainment unit looks very appealing. The 7.0-inch touchscreen system is rather slick and sophisticated, with Android Auto and Apple Car Play in combination. You can also add Suzuki Connect as an option to include e-SIM connected technology with geo-fencing and real-time driving alerts.
Engine Options
Now upgraded to BS6-spec, the 1.5-liter petrol engine features mild-hybrid technology, with an integrated starter generator and a secondary lithium-ion battery pack. The engine offers some help with heavy acceleration, however, there is no pure electric mode. The XL6 has good initial answers and you will also appreciate the sporty top-end look. Fair power exists for full load driving and cruise controls also help keep you steady.
The manual 5-speed transmission is easy to use and the clutch is also easy to operate. A 4-speed converter is also available. The unit is pleasant and moves smoothly in the city. When you pull the accelerator down, the gearbox drops a ratio or two, and when you don't want it, the engine gets riled up. The average fuel economy of the automatic gearbox is also a little better.
The low-speed comfort of the XL6 is good because the suspension is easy to overcome the bumps. However, at 80 kph and up in the car there is quite a bit of road noise and this removes the premium feeling that this car is trying to achieve.
Safety
The car is equipped with many safety devices like airbags, ABS, and alarming systems. All these features make this car one of the safest cars to drive. The higher variants of XL6 cars are equipped with even more safety features.
Pricing
The XL6 price ranges from Rs. 9.8- 11.46 lakh (ex-showroom). The XL6 Zeta costs Rs. 20,000 more, which makes it a little expensive. The Alpha-Trim costs Rs10.36 lakh. It is also a sensitive purchase, but the cost of the car comes with a significant premium. That being said, Maruti should not find it hard to persuade buyers to upgrade to the XL6.
