Maruti Suzuki will launch 1.5 liter diesel engine with Ciaz, Ertiga and Brezza

It has not been long that Maruti Suzuki decided to not sell diesel engine vehicles. The company seems to have taken a U-turn on its decision now.

CarInfo informed you earlier as well that the Maruti Suzuki is all set to re-enter the diesel engine segment in 2021. Now according to a report published by Team-BHP, Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch its BS6 compliant engine with Ertiga, Ciaz, and Brezza.

Ever since the Maruti Suzuki stopped selling Fiat-sourced diesel engine powered cars, its market share has gone done drastically. To put the things in perspective, Maruti Suzuki sold over 5,00,000 engine cars in the fiscal year 2018-19. Hence, its a no-brainer that Maruti is all set to re-launch diesel engine vehicles to re-capture the lost market share.

As per the report, the 1.5 litre diesel engine will be launched first with Ciaz and Ertiga. It will debut in the next generate of Brezza code named: YXA. The report also claims that the new diesel engine could power the new crossover, codenamed: D22 which is being developed jointly by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota.

Earlier, in 2020, Maruti Suzuki decided to stop selling diesel engine powered cars after the enforcement of stricter BS6 emission norms. India's largest automaker then believed that it is not feasible to sell affordable diesel cars and Indian buyers would shift towards cleaner fuel alternatives like petrol, CNG, and electric.
