Maruti Suzuki teases the launch of 2022 Jimny

Maruti Suzuki India has teased a new future car via the Nexa social media handle. It could be the Jimny SUV, one of Maruti Suzuki's eagerly awaited SUVs in India. The Indo-Japanese automaker has already produce a three-door version of the SUV for export, however, India will likely receive Jimny's five-door variant, which is now in development.

Maruti Suzuki plans to launch the Jimny in the coming years, after the successful debut of the Force Gurkha and Mahindra Thar. The long-wheelbase version of the car is set to arrive in 2022 which was unveiled to the public during the 2020 Auto Expo.

Due to the popularity of the Gypsy brand, the company is also expected to launch the Jimny SUV in India as rebadged Gypsy. However, the company has stayed quiet on the launch date of Jimny. When the SUV gets launched, it will compete against Mahindra's all-new Thar and Force Gurkha. It will sell in  India via Maruti's premium retail network, Nexa.

A 1.4-liter mild-hybrid technology turbocharged petrol engine powers the international model. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny may get powered by a 1.5-liter K15B petrol engine in India which is shared with the Ertiga, Ciaz, Vitara Brezza, and XL6. At 6000 rpm, the engine makes 103 bhp, and at 4400 rpm, it makes 138 Nm of peak torque. The SUV will be available with a 4-speed automatic torque converter and 5-speed manual transmission.
