This car takes its inspiration from  pouncing cheetahs with its large 6 slate chrome grille and the tear duct-like black accents surrounding the lights.
XUV 500 was launched in 2011, at that time it was presumed to be one of the most anticipated cars which managed to impress the buyers. The good thing about XUV 500 is that Mahindra keeps updating its model from time to time, to overcome any identified glitch. The last update was done in 2018 to make it at par with any car available with the same specification, at a reasonable price.
It is available in 7 variants W5, W7, W9, W11 OPT, W7 AT, W11 AT OPT, and W9 AT. Mahindra claims it to be the most awarded SUV.
Exterior
XUV 500 has doors that are uniquely oriented in a vertical position and are provided with a pull-type handle to maintain ease and comfort while handling it and resemble the paws of the Cheetah. The bonnet is also slightly uplifted to match the slender shoulders of this beautiful yet strong and agile animal. The front is made from a chrome element that surrounds the grille and fog lamps glass housing, it complements the sleek and shiny appearance naturally.
The oomph factor is added to the headlights by providing the new LED DRLs (Day running lights). To match the sturdiness, XUV 500 has 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Taillights are triangular and bisected towards the center. It is provided with an electric sunroof and roof rail which further accentuate the sporty persona of this SUV.
Mahindra XUV500 is available in 7 distinct and radiant colors Crimson Red, Volcano Black, Mystic Copper, Moon-dust Silver, Opulent Purple, and Pearl White. Lake Side Brown is available only with W9 and W11(O) model variants.
Interior
XUV500 comes with an eye-catching all-black panel. Its top-end variant is provided with a soft-touch leather on the dashboard and doors, making its interiors comfy. The black dashboard is in contrast to the tan quilted premium leather with a unique stitch design that makes the interiors look effortless and impressive. Mahindra XUV500 is equipped with an infotainment system that can be integrated with Apple CarPlay to provide hands-free phone use and Android Auto to control features like calls, messages, music, etc.
The Arkamys Sound in the infotainment system gives an enhanced and elevated sound experience in the vehicle. The tilt and telescopic steering wheel have a touch of silver. The steering wheels have mounted controls to provide ease to the driver to make small changes to the speed without having to use the accelerator. The Fully Automatic Temperature Control (FATC) allows the driver to set cabin temperature and maintains it automatically without any readjustments. The cabin of the 7-seater SUV is very spacious, and have flat foldable middle and last row seats which can be folded in a 60:40 ratio.
XUV 500 comes with 6 airbags - dual front airbags, side, and curtain airbags to enhance passenger’s safety. It also has an add-on safety feature of the emergency call function that calls a pre-saved number when the airbags are deployed. All the variants have ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), which provides a better grip over the vehicle on slippery surfaces. Other safety features include rear demister, AWD, and follow-me-home projector headlamps. The wipers are turned on or off automatically by the rain-sensing wipers.
Engine Options
It has a fuel-efficient diesel engine with a capacity of 21977cc. The SUV engine is operated by an electronically controlled turbocharger which ensures a smooth power distribution and a good torque performance. It can produce 1558 BHP at 3,750 rpm, which is an impressive performance for a heavy vehicle. The diesel engine is available in 6-speed synchromesh transmission.

Mahindra XUV 500 starts at 13.58 lakhs and may go up to 19.31 lakhs. The type of variant and accessories you choose determines the price of the vehicle. XUV500 W7 will start at Rs.14.88 lakh with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, start-stop button, passive keyless entry, start-stop button, steering-mounted controls climate control, and rain-sensing wipers. XUV500 W9 starts at Rs.16.58 lakhs with additional safety features like ESP, hill hold, and hill descent control.XUV500 W11 variant starts at Rs.18.08 lakhs is available in front-wheel and all-wheel drive options.
