Mahindra to partner with Volkswagen for future electric vehicles

In a surprise announcement on the electric vehicle front, the world's largest carmaker Volkswagen and Mahindra & Mahindra have signed an agreement to study further development of its "Born Electric Platform" by sourcing components from the German car maker's MEB platform. It allows car manufacturers to build their portfolio of electrified vehicles, cost-effectively and quickly.

The new partnership between two manufacturers will explore the use of components from the Volkswagen Group's MEB electric vehicle platform including battery cells, electric motors, and battery system agreements in its upcoming electric SUV.

In a statement, the two companies said that the partnering agreement will find the scope of collaboration between the companies. It indicates binding rules for the evaluation phase as well as the non-binding scope of supply by the end of 2022. The objective is to electrify the Indian market.
