After the success of Kia Seltos, Kia Motors India has unveiled the compact SUV, Sonet. With the latest offering, the Korean automaker is eyeing a sweet chunk of B-segment compact SUV market that is already crowded with the like of Brezza, EcoSport, and Nexon among others.
Kia Sonet is an India-exclusive compact SUV offering designed to meet the needs of Indian market conditions. It was first unveiled in the 2020 Auto Expo. It is expected to give strong competition to Hyundai Venue and the upcoming Nissan Magnite.
Engine
Kia Sonet will come with 3 engine options including 2 petrol and 1 diesel. It will offer 4 cylinder Smartstream 1.2 litre and 1 litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine options. In diesel, it will offer 1.5 litre CRDI engine.
Kia will offer 5 engine transmissions including 5 speed and 6 speed manual transmission (MT), 6 speed AMT, 6 speed iMT, and 7 speed DCT. Its iMT transmission is a clutchless gear system that was first launched with the Hyundai Venue.
Exteriors
Kia Sonet has eye-grabbing road presence with a premium and youthful appeal. It comes equipped with 'heartbeat' LED DRLs with integrated indicators. And its 'heartbeat' tail lamps add an element of drama to the car's exteriors.
Its signature 'tiger nose' grille along with signature mesh give it a very aggressive and premium stance from the front. Sonet's GT-Line trim will come with a glossy black grille and GT-Line logo with a red accent. Kia Sonet will be offered in 11 color options.
Interiors
Kia Sonet will offer a connected driving experience along with 10.25 inch HD touchscreen infotainment system that would be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It will also offer automatic climate control, auto ORVM and IRVM.
It will also offer Bose 7-speaker sound system with sound mood lights. To beat the heat and pollution on Indian roads, Sonet will come equipped with ventilated front seats and smart air purifier. Kia Sonet will also get an electric sunroof and wireless charging for your smartphone.
Safety
To ensure absolute safety, Kia Sonet will offer 6 airbags, brake assists parking sensors for both front and rear, tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX child seat anchor, auto headlamps, and ABS with EBD.
Kia is expected to launch the car during the upcoming festive season in September.
