Is the New Hyundai Aura Replacing Xcent?

Hyundai has finally revealed that its latest launch in the compact sedan segment will be called 'Aura'. The car would be sharing the platform with Grand i10 Nios, will sport trademark Hyundai cascading grille, LED DRLs and upswept headlights.

The test mules of Aura were recently spotted on Chennai roads. The Korean car manufacturer is expected to launch the new car during the festive season in December. Hyundai is also expected to showcase the brand Aura in the 2020 Auto Expo.

The premium sedan is expected to replace the existing Xcent sub-4m sedan. However, Hyundai has rejected all these rumours and has reiterated that Xcent will be sold alongside Aura. Hyundai will keep selling limited variants of Xcent along with Aura to ensure  for its customers.

Hyundai Aura is expected to come powered with a 1.2-litre diesel and petrol motors engines shared with Grand i10 Nios. Both units will meet the compliance of BS6 standards. Transmission duties will be met by a 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) that will also replace the 4-speed automatic transmission (AT) present in the current Xcent.

Aura is also expected to get 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine under the hood which is already being used in Hyundai Venue. The engine is known for its high efficiency and better performance. However, Aura is not expected to the goodness of dual clutch transmission (DCT) as offered in Venue.

Car is expected to come with a 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. It is also expected to get C-shaped LED taillights. Just like Nios or Venue, Aura will also get a Hyundai logo in the centre of the boot lid.

Hyundai has managed to keep the details of the interiors a secret. However, the car is expected to get a two-tone interior layout as offered in Hyundai’s latest Nios. the dashboard of Aura may get an all black theme to give it a sporty feel. Other features that might come would be automatic climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging and rear AC vents in the top trims.

The car is expected to be launched in the price bracket of INR 6 lakh to 9 lakh. With this price range, it is expected to give tough competition to established rivals in compact sedan segment including Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and Ford Aspire among others.
