Hyundai Ioniq wins the title of World Car of the year

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has been named as the 2022 World Car of the year, beating out the likes of Honda Civic, Audi Q4 e-tron, and Lexus NX, powered by Brembo. Whereas, Hyundai also got the title in two segments i.e. World Electric Vehicle of the Year and World Car Design of the Year.  

For the annual awards, the finalists were chosen via secret ballot by a jury of 102 eminent worldwide automotive journalists from 33 countries vote for their favorite vehicle in 6 categories: World Luxury Car, World Electric Vehicle of the Year, World Car Design of the year, and World Performance Car.  

The car was picked from a group of 28 automobiles across the world, followed by a three shortlist finalists i.e. Kia EV6, Hyundai IONIQ 5, and Ford Mustang Mach-E on March 15.      

Earlier, Hyundai announced that they will be introducing the IONIQ  in late October. It will be priced somewhere at between Rs 35-40 lakh, as per reports. The company offers it in two configurations, a rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The rear wheel-drive has a single motor setup and produces 169 bhp of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. Whereas, the all-wheel drive gets a dual-motor setup and produces 306 bhp of max power.
