Hyundai discontinued i20 diesel variants

Hyundai has discontinued the diesel variants of i20 hatchback from its website. This move was taken a long coming one with low demand for diesel hatchbacks and the transition to the new BS6 Phase 2 norms will come into effect from April 2023 a. Now, Hyundai i20 continues to offers only two petrol engine options.

Mechanically, it now gets the option of 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine or a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine. It produces 118 bhp and 172 Nm of peak torque, while the second one 82bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque. The transmission is handled by 5-speed manual, a 7-speed DCT unit, and a CVC unit.

Likewise, the premium hatchback is no longer offered in the Indian market with the 1.5-litre diesel engine or the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol iMT models. Prices for the I20 currently range from Rs. 7.19 lakh to Rs. 11.83 lakh (ex-showroom).

This decision was made in response to the shift in customer preferences towards petrol-powered vehicles and the stricter emission norms that have been implemented in the country.
