Honda City needs no introduction. Being one of the most loved sedans in the world, it also enjoys a big fan following in India. Apart from stunning looks, City is popular for its reliable performance, low maintenance, and high fuel efficiency.
In its 5th generation, the all-new Honda City has become plusher and more spacious. It now comes fitted with a host of gadgets and smart features to always keep you comfortable.

Exterior
The new Honda City is based on the Jazz platform and its wheelbase also remains the unchanged at 2,600mm. However, the 5th-gen platform is heavily modified to enhance crash protection and refinement. The higher percentage of high-strength steel is being used to cut down weight and increase torsional rigidity by around 20 percent for stiffer handling.
The new City is larger than the outgoing generation in almost all dimensions. In fact, it has now become the longest car in its segment with a 4,549mm length. To put things into perspective, the first-generation Honda City that was launched way back in 1998 was approximately 300mm shorter than the 5th gen City.
Its styling has also evolved. It is now more subtle and classy in its styling. Honda’s signature chunky chrome bar that stretches across the width of the front fascia is now flanked by sleek headlamps that make it resemble the more premium Civic. Adding a touch of bling to its styling are the full-LED headlamps, which look contemporary and upmarket.
The diamond-cut 16-inch alloys are attractively styled, but the 185/55 tyres look undersized for this car’s stretched dimensions. The LED tail-lights are good-looking too, and bear an uncanny resemblance to those of the new BMW 3 Series.
Interior
You are greeted with a premium-looking brown and black interior as soon as you enter the car. The sunshine brown animal skin seats welcome you with a promise of a premium ride. The backseat is spacious and provides comfort at par with bigger sedans. What is nice is that each one of the 3 rear passengers get three-point seat belts and properly sized head restraints.
It also offers various creature comforts and safety features including a sunroof, a lane watch camera, a rear-view camera with traditional, wide, and high read, a tire pressure watching system with deflation warning, front facet and curtain airbags, and car climate management.
The steering wheel mounted controls also have a roller switch that helps you to access various controls easily. The central console consists of analog meter needles that run across the digital dial on the seven-inch screen. The digital dials are sharp and crisp.
Engine
The engine has continuously been a USP for Honda City, and its petrol engine still holds the crown within the new model. The new DOHC 1.5-litre petrol engine loves to be revved at higher RPMs and is a fun to drive on highways. Tall gear ratios also make Honda City an easy car to drive in the city. Its familiar 1.5-litre iDTEC diesel engine is also available. All the engines are mated to 6-speed manual transmission. Petrol engine also offer the option of CVT transmission.
