Which Is Better? Grand i10 Nios OR Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti Suzuki Swift is the poster boy of budget hatchback segment. With its sporty looks, efficient engine and reliable Maruti badge, it has been the top seller in its segment ever since it was launched. In a bid to challenge the throne of Swift, Hyundai has launched Grand i10 Nios.

Let us check out what Grand i10 Nios has to offer to challenge the current market leader Swift.

1. Engine

Both cars equipped with BS6 compliant 1.2-litre petrol engines. The engine figures are perfectly matched of both cars at 83PS of power, 113Nm torque and 5-speed AMTs. However, Swift has slightly better acceleration and engine refinement. Hyundai’s AMT is smoother and does more practical shifts. The gear shifting point of Nois is better calibrated than Maruti in city traffic conditions and hilly terrains.

Surprisingly, Nios offers better mileage than Swift, both in the city and highway.

2. Handling and Ride Quality

Nios offers a smoother ride quality at both low and high speeds. However, triple digits rides tend to get a bit bouncy. Swift’s suspension set up is a bit noisy and makes more sound on bad roads. But Swift is more comfortable in potholes and bumpy roads.

Both cars come equipped with a light steering which is good for city ride conditions but lacks firm feedback. Don’t expect outright feedback from the steering at corners or at high-speed manoeuvres. All in all, Nios’s steering holds a slight edge over Swift, as it is more stable and holds its line better.

3. Interior

Hyundai is known for offering premium-looking and flawless cabin set up and with Nios they have already improved their game. The cabin aesthetics of Nios are graced with a grey looking upholstery and black finished dashboard with premium plastic. Rotary AC vents and 8-inch touchscreen infotainment gives the dashboard a premium feel.

Nios comes loaded with Apple Car Play and Android Auto along with Arkamys sound system backed by six speakers for a better audio experience. It also offers cooled glove box and rear AC vents for Indian summers. This is by far, the best looking cabin with ample touch of practicality in its segment.

7-inch touchscreen infotainment, with Apple/Android integration but that is only available in the top trim. Its other host of features including auto headlamps, rear wiper and push button start/stop are only available in the top trim. However, Swift’s seats are better cushioned but its rear seats have lesser legroom than Nios.

4. Style

Nios no more looks cute and soft like the present Grand i10. It has become edgier and more contemporary to appeal to younger generation of buyers. Its sharp creases, detailed headlamps and scalloped bumper give it a distinct road presence.

The new generation of Swift has evolved dramatically and offers an all-new design. Its rear door handles on the C-pillar, dramatic LED headlamps and DRLs, broader tail and bigger grill makes it an appealing car to have.
