Govt extends the validity of all RTO documents till Sept 30

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, the government has extended the validity of motor vehicle documents like driving licence (DL), registration certificate (RC) and permits till September 30, 2021. Taking into consideration, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) advised the enforcement authorities that the validity of license, fitness, permit (all types), registration or any other concerned documents may be treated to be valid till Sept 30, 2021.

The ministry said in an advisory to states in another tweet, it is advised that the documents whose validity has expired since February 1, 2020, would be treated to be valid till Sept 30, 2021.

In an advisory to states issued on December 27, 2020, MoRTH had extended the validity of documents in reference to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, till March 31, 2021. Before that, similar extensions were provided on March 30, 2020, June 9, 2020, and August 24, 2020, due to lockdown because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Stating that this may be the last advisory in this regard, the ministry has asked to DGPs, principal secretaries and secretaries, department of transport, transport commissioners of states, and UTs to implement this advisory in letter and spirit, so that people may not face difficulties.
