The Indian government has allowed retrofitment of CNG and LPG in petrol and diesel that are compliant with BS6 emission norms. Currently, these modifications are allowed only to those vehicles which are compliant with BS-IV emission norms.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH) has sent notification the about the replacement of diesel engines with CNG/LPG engines in BS-6 vehicles, less than 3.5 tonnes.
CNG reduces the emission levels of carbon monoxide, smoke, hydrocarbon, as compared to petrol and diesel engines.
It is an environment-friendly fuel and more cheaper than the fossil fuels.
