It's always exciting when Ferrari introduces a new sports car. The Italian manufacturer has not introduced a new car in a long time, but that changed yesterday when it unveiled the all-new 296 GTB.
It is the latest mid-rear engine sports car, powered by a V6 engine. Ferrari's last V6-powered car was the Dino 246 GT in the 1970s. What makes the 296 GTB even more remarkable is that it's a plug-in hybrid sports car. As a result, the model of the prancing horse is gradually embracing cleaner technology.
Hybrid powertrain allows Ferrari to extract tremendous power from smaller engines, without much environmental concerns. The deliveries of Ferrari 296 GTB will commence 12 months after. It is likely to compete with McLaren Artura.
A 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine along with a battery pack of 7.54-kWh, and an electronic motor that provides 164 horsepower. 315 Nm to the total output, resulting in a high-driving torque of 819 bhp and 740 Nm. The 296 GTB can only cover 25 km on electric power and reach 135 km/h if it is a PHEV. The 2.9-liter engine is combined with an 8-speed digital differential, dual-clutch transmission, and can push the car from zero to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds.
Exterior
The design of the Ferrari 296 GTB is elegant, clean, yet full of aerodynamic components. The Berlinetta design, strong wings, windscreen, and vertical back, are a distinct silhouette of sports activities. The fascia is fitted with a tapered cap, glossy LED headlights with LED DRLs, and large air intakes. There is a strong crease line along with the doors, and the side air curtains give muscle to the 296 GTB and channel air to the wheels.
The rear end features twin square taillights on each side, with an LED strip that adds a contemporary touch. The central exhaust, rear diffuser, and colorful spoiler inspired by LaFerrari are included in the rear end of the 296 GTB design. The rear spoiler is stored between the taillights in regular situations. It expands robotically at high speeds to provide up to 100 kg of downforce. A digital fairing is used to channel the air to the rear spoiler to enable the air to flow over the roof.
Ferrari 296 GTB features a simple cockpit and has no central infotainment display. Due to this, all knowledge may be obtained through the large TFT instrument cluster. Like other Ferrari sports cars, the steering wheel features familiar buttons. The start/stop swap and the eManettino button allow the driver to pick between four driving modes — eDrive, Hybrid, Efficiency, and Qualify.
Ferrari's normal 296 GTB model will be given a ticket price of €269,000 (total 2.38 crore), whereas Assetto Fiorano's package price is €302,000 (total 2.67 crores).
