Everything you need to know about the new Celerio

Next-gen Celerio is out with new design elements and interiors. Want to know about its major changes? Keep reading.

Maruti Suzuki has a handful of new models, which are expected to launch this year. Celerio, hatchback's second-generation model is all set to get change soon and we have some new expected details about it. Find out its features and interesting facts:

Design

One of the most important changes is probably to arrive in the form of a new Heatect platform that already underpins many Maruti Suzuki cars. However, we also expect the bigger dimensions of the car and sit higher than the existing models. The new-gen will carry all-new tail lamps, a modern tailgate design, a newly-designed grille, new door handles, revised headlamps, and a bumper. It still gets an integrated spoiler but the high-mounted stop lamp is now placed behind the rear end, rather than on the spoiler.

Interior

Some pictures revealed that the next-gen Celerio will also have a 7.0-inch Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system with both Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Some additional equipment includes, steering mounted controls, automatic climate control, and a few more goodies. We also expect the overall design of the interiors to be slightly changed to add a new look to the vehicle.

Safety

Along with the standard safety concern, the price of the vehicle will ultimately increase to provide decent safety features comparable to the competition. The upcoming Celerio's main rival Tata Tiago has achieved a 4-star safety rating in the Global NCAP tests.

Engine

Under the hood, it may retain the 67PS/90Nm, 1.0-litre petrol engine offered in the outgoing model. Additionally, it may get the option of the 1.2-litre petrol, 4-cylinder petrol engine (83PS/113Nm) with transmission options. The hatchback is mated with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an AMT unit.

Pricing

With the next-gen Celerio expected to launch in the coming months, it could carry at a small premium over the outgoing model priced between Rs 4.41 lakh and Rs 5.68 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It will arrive in the first half of 2021. It will go against the likes of Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro, and Datsun Go. The company is expected to launch the Celerio X version of the new model as well.
