DMRC launched India's first FASTag-based cashless parking facility and dedicated intermediate public transport lanes for taxi, auto, and e-rickshaws at the Kashmere Gate station.
Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) launched the country's first FASTag-based cashless parking facility at the Kashmere Gate metro station - as part of only multimodal integration of transport services for commuters. It is the nation's first facility to accept payment through UPI (Unified Payments Interface) mode.
As part of the multimodal integration initiative (MMI), dedicated intermediate public transport or IPT lanes for taxi, auto, as well as e-rickshaws were also inaugurated at the station. The allocated lanes will allow the movement of vehicles and boost the last mile connectivity at the station.
At gate number 6 of the metro station, the parking facility is exclusively cashless. It can accommodate as many as 55 four-wheelers and 174 two-wheelers. Passengers having two-wheelers can use their DMRC card with parking. Only vehicles bearing FASTag will be allowed to park at this facility, they added.
The entry, exit and payment of four-wheelers can be made through FASTag, as per DMRC. The parking fee will be deducted via FASTag, which will reduce the duration for entry and payment. Only those vehicles bearing FASTag will be allowed to park at this facility. They also said, two wheelers will not be charged and the smart card swipe is used only for registering at the time of entry, exit and fare calculation. In this procedure, no money will be deducted from the card.
Officials said, the parking fee for two-wheeler can be paid using UPI-based apps by scanning a QR-code. Later, the payment can also be made via DMRC or the national common mobility card (NCMC).
This a pilot project of DMRC and the metro authority is planning to set up similar systems at more of its parking facilities across the national capital region.
These facilities are aimed to help passengers travelling to and from the Kashmere Gate station, which is connected to several offices and major inter-state bus terminus (ISBT).
FASTag is now mandatory for all the vehicles in India. You can buy your FASTag here.
