The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari claimed that each airbag will cost Rs 800 to provide safety for all the people seated in the car.
The Government has previously made six mandatory for all the cars sold in India. This rule is supposed to kick in from October this year, however, the government is yet to put the final notification.
The cost of fitting side airbags should be minor, while the curtain airbag needs to be re-engineered if it's not getting offered already in India or any overseas market in a particular car.
Therefore, as per government, four airbags could demand extra amount of Rs 30,000.
