Types of car headlights with their pros and cons

Headlights are one of the essential parts of the car while driving to improve visibility in bad weather conditions. Therefore, proper functioning of headlights is very important. There are mainly three types of headlights: LED, HID or xenon, and halogen. We are going to tell you about all three of them.

LED headlights

Light emitting diodes (LED) headlights generate almost no heat and produce bright light. Low energy requirements mean it reduce emissions and help preserve your car's battery.

Pros

LED headlights are the most efficient headlights of all. These are very small and can be put into almost any location. Also, they will give you the greatest viewing distance. One more advantage is that you can use them in different shapes.

Cons

They are more expensive than other types of headlights. They produce a lot of heat and are not as bright as xenon headlights.

Halogen headlights

Halogen headlights are the most commonly used type of headlights. They are cheaper and are easy to replace. It works out by delivering electricity via tungsten filament placed in a glass capsule filled with the halogen glass. The gas is extremely heat resistance and emits yellow light. It is now present in Indian market for buyers.

Pros

Halogen lights are cost-effective and easy to replace. Also, they are quite versatile and dimmable. They are easily found.

Cons

Halogen lights do not produce the brightest lights, therefore it is difficult to see at night. They need to be replaced more often.

Laser headlights

These are a recent innovation in automobile lighting generation. They produce light by triggering a chemical reaction.

Pros

Laser lights requires less space to fit in.  They are more efficient and can produce 1,000x the amount of light for half the amount of energy that LEDs consume. They are also very small in size and can fit easily.

Cons

The cost of replacing laser lights are very high. They requires most sophisticated built-in cooling systems, as they produce more light.

HID headlights

High intensity discharge (HID) headlights, also known as ‘xenons’. They tend to produce light three times brighter than halogen light. Despite of producing extra, it actually use less energy than halogen lights have a long life duration. It throw light around 200 to 250 metres.

Pros

They requires less electricity to run and are more efficient. As we compare to halogen bulb, they will allow you to see at night easily. As they are more efficient, their lifespan is a lot longer.

Cons

These headlights need to warm up to reach full brightness. They are generally more expensive and can be easily broken. They can't be put inside a simple socket.

Selection of headlights for your car is very important decision. So, we hope that this listicle will help you to make a wise choice.
