Diesel vehicles may get ban by 2027

By 2027, four wheelers powered by diesel may get banned. In order to reduce emissions, an oil ministry panel has recommended the Indian government to ban the use of diesel vehicles and switch to electric or gas-fuelled vehicles in populated cities.

As per panel, no city buses should be added which are not electric. Diesel buses will not be allowed after 2024 onwards.

However, it's not clear that if the ministry will take cabinet approval to implement the suggestions of the panel.

India is considered as one of the top emitters of green house gases. Diesel carries 2/5th of fuel consumption in India with 80% of it being used in transport sector.

Also, the new registrations of electric powered city delivery vehicles should be allowed from 2024. Railway network of the country is going to be fully electric in next 2-3 years.
