Diesel BS4 cars to be banned in Delhi

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced a new policy to curb air pollution in Delhi-NCR in the next five years.

The new policy proposes a ban of BS-IV four-wheeler diesel vehicles, except for essential services, in and around Delhi if the Air Quality Index (AQI) goes above 450.

The government could ban BS4 diesel cars, which implies that all diesel cars bought before April 2020 will face a complete ban in the same region. There are about 10 million cars registered in the national capital, out of which 1.12 million will get banned.

However, diesel autorickshaws in Gurugram, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Faridabad will be phased out by December 31, 2024. Whereas, the other districts of Delhi will be included in this phasing out by December 31, 2026.
