Delhi Govt wants Swiggy, Ola, Uber, Zomato to switch to electric vehicles

In the recent few years, the national capital has been recording extreme levels of air pollution. To overcome the increasing level of pollution in Delhi, the government is asking major companies like Zomato, Swiggy, Ola, and Uber to switch their gas powered vehicles to electric vehicles. As the emissions from these services contribute 38 percent of total air pollution.

A senior officer from transport department said that this whole process of switching to all-electric vehicles will be done in a phased manner and will release the draft guidelines soon.

Ola has already started manufacturing electric scooters and recently launched the S1 and S1 pro scooters. Booking numbers have reported crossed 90,000.

Automakers like Tata Motors will be happy as they deliver affordable electric cars to taxi. Tata Nexon's EV is already India's top selling car.

Moreover, the government is also planning to implement a rule of checking PUC's at petrol stations before allowing the vehicle to be refueled. The owners will be required to get their vehicles checked. And if they failed to do so, they can be fined up to Rs 10,000 or imprisonment for up to 6 months or both.

Currently, only Flipkart and FedEx have announced the electrification of vehicles by 2030 and 2040.
