Challans of the last 3 years are canceled in this state

In a significant development, the Uttar Pradesh state government has announced the cancellation of traffic challans issued by the traffic police over the last three years, benefiting more than 17 lakh vehicle owners. This move follows a previous initiative by the Noida Transport Department to waive challans, extending the relief to a broader segment of vehicle owners.

The earlier policy to waive traffic challans applied exclusively to those issued by the Assistant Divisional Transport Department. However, the recent directive now extends this benefit to challans issued by the traffic police.

According to traffic police officials, approximately 17,89,463 challans issued from April 1, 2018, to December 31, 2021, will be entirely waived, reducing the challan amount to zero. This means that individuals whose vehicles received challans during this period are not required to make any payments. The e-challan website will be updated to reflect the zero challan amount.

However, it's essential to consider the seven lakh drivers who have already deposited their challan amounts during the specified period. Despite the relief now being extended to these individuals, the previous rule had placed a financial burden on them. If these drivers had waited, they too would have benefited from the recent waiver, easing their financial burden.
