Mahindra New Scorpio is expected to launch this year

Mahindra is all set to launch the new generation of Scorpio in 2021. Now, freshly leaked documents reveal the automaker has trademarked the name ‘Scorpion’. It's expected to arrive within the first half of 2021. Recently, homegrown automaker registered new names for the next-gen Scorpio in 4 different formats: Scorpio Sting, The Sting, Sting and Scorpio Sting, and the Scorpio definitely due to a large upgrade considering the rise in competition.

Exterior

The next-gen SUV will also get a larger tailgates with a rear windshield wiper, new body panels, while the profile will feature new sportier alloy wheels, large roof rails, ORVMs with integrated side indicators, side steps and more. Spy photos gave a closer look at the production-spec grille which will get the signature vertical slats. The SUV will also come with a collection of latest twin-pod LED projector headlamps, a large air-dam with honeycomb pattern grille and seem to be vertical foglamps. The loading lip on the prototype models is quite low, which would make it comparably easy to load heavy load.

Interior

Like all the trendy launches, the Scorpio can arrive with fairly easy interiors however, with all the modern features. It has a fresh dashboard with larger touchscreen infotainment system, updated dashboard and center console, rear AC vents, upholstery, push button start/stop, new multi-functional steering wheel, a new alloy wheel design, cruise control, possibly a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, sunroof, and several other highlights. On the safety front, it is expected to get multiple airbags, rear parking camera, and vehicle stability management (VSM) on the top-spec variants.

Engine

The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be powered by the company's latest 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine that does duty on the Thar earlier in 2020, and it can produce 150 bhp and up to 320 Nm of peak torque. It will also come with the updated BS6 compliant 2.2-litre mHawk diesel that produces 130 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The diesel motor could only come with a 6-speed manual transmission. The petrol engine may also offer with manual and automatic transmission. TGDi engines may also be available.

Price

For now, the Scorpio is sold in S5, S7, S9 and S11 variants in the price range between Rs. 12.49 lakh and Rs. 16.28 lakh (ex-showroom).
