Renault Kiger with new 'HBC' Concept

Renault Kiger has already made a lot of buzz before its launch in India. A long list of features and unique styling has attracted a lot of bookings for Kiger.

Renault India has finally pulled the wraps off its sub-four metre compact SUV that was earlier codenamed 'HBC' concept. Renault will launch Kiger on January 28. It will be now referred as the Renault Kiger after the launch. The new Kiger concept previews the upcoming subcompact SUV and can be launched on the same platform as the Triber MPV. Renault says it will also be introduce an all-new global engine on the sub-4-metre SUV.

Exterior

The Renault Kiger will be sharing it's underpinnings with Nissan Magnite. However, the upcoming model will be featured with a completely different style, which can be in line with different Renault cars such as Triber and Duster. The company did showcase the Kiger during a concept form last month, and Renault confirmed that the production model are to be going regarding 80 per cent similar to the car.

The Kiger is expected to feature with a 3 point LED split-headlamp design on bumper, as well as Renault’s signature grille. Front and back skid plates, as well as body cladding is expected to be attached on the sub-4m SUV to make it look more modern. At the rear, the Kiger will likely get a roof mounted spoiler, as well as C-shaped LED tail lamps.

The Renault Kiger will be built on Renault–Nissan’s modular CMF-A+ platform, that also underpins the Renault Triber. Talking about dimensions, we are expecting the upcoming model to be in similar size to the Magnite with a length of 3994 mm, a width of 1758 mm, stands 1572 mm tall and also gets a 2500 mm long wheelbase. While, the wheelbase will be same with minor changes that could be seen in other dimensions too.  The car rides on 19-inch alloy wheels with the ground clearance of 210 mm.

Engine

The Renault Kiger will be offered with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol unit that belts 100 PS power and 160 Nm torque – a naturally aspirated unit producing 72 PS of maximum power together with 96 Nm of peak torque. We expect the upcoming Kiger to get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard with both the engines, while the turbo petrol unit will also likely be available with an optional CVT auto.

Interior

Renault Kiger is also expected to share it's equipment list with the Magnite. The upcoming model will likely be offered with features such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system connected with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, cruise control, voice recognition technology, steering-mounted controls, push-button start/stop, electrically adjustable wing mirrors and automatic climate control.

As safety feaures, the upcoming model will get dual frontal airbags, around view monitor, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Front seatbelt reminders as well as a high-speed alert system will also be offered.

Currently, the Nissan Magnite is the least expensive sub-compact SUV in India, with a beginning price tag of Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Moreover, the base price will increase to Rs 5.54 lakh (ex-showroom) from January 1, 2021 onwards. On the other hand, Renault Kiger is expected to get the price tag between Rs 5-9 lakh.
