The all-new MG Gloster will be the company’s first full-size SUV in India. All the features of the new car have already been revealed. It is set to be launched in India on 8 October 2020 and will arrive as the carmaker’s fourth offering for the Indian market. The expected price of the MG Gloster in India to start from Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-of-the-line variant might be priced close to Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom).
Impressive Features
The driver can access a lot of information through an 8-inch coloured instrument cluster that also shows battery charge & fuel range indicator. It seems like MG Motor India is aiming to offer the best creature comforts for the MG Gloster buyers as the vehicle will also come with ventilated front seats, however, these get a heating functionality only. A boon during chilly winter nights.
MG Gloster will be offered with a choice between two engine options; a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that makes 161 bhp and 375 Nm for the base Super and Smart trim levels. Whereas, for the Sharp and Savvy trims, the Gloster will be powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel motor that belts out a maximum power of 215 bhp along with a peak torque of 480 Nm. MG will offer both these engines in combination with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
To be precise, the Gloster will come with lane departure and front collision warning along with autonomous emergency braking and also, an adaptive cruise control.
The MG Gloster is 4,985mm long, 1,926mm wide, and 1,867mm high. It is bigger than the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. The MG Gloster triumphs the Mahindra Alturas G4 in terms of length and height, but not width. The Gloster has a 2,950mm wheelbase, which is better than what the other three offer.
However, the engine’s bottom end is particularly weak and the SUV feels unusually sluggish below 2,000rpm. This is only exacerbated by the slow responses of the gearbox, which often takes time to select the right gear.
On the whole, the SUV comes across as a pleasant surprise with impressive specs and a lot of substance.
